Beschreibung

2017 und 2018 erschienen die ursprünglich für den Hyperspace vorgesehenen und nach der Einstellung dieses Bereichs vorerst gecancelten Werke Cult Encounters: The Last Days of Arhul Hextrophon und Supernatural Encounters: The Trial and Transformation of Arhul Hextrophon auf der Webseite des Autors Joe Bongiorno. Was Cult Encounters angeht, habe ich bereits eine ausführliche Erklärung der Entstehungsgeschichte in dem entsprechenden Artikel verfasst, etwas Ähnliches gilt auch für Supernatural Encounters.

Es ist nun zu diskutieren, ob und wie wir die Inhalte dieser Werke in unseren Artikeln verwenden können und sollten. Hinsichtlich des Lizenzstatus und der Kanonizität dieser Werke innerhalb der „Legends“ existiert das folgende, öffentlich abgegebene Statement des Autors, mit dem ich auch in engem Kontakt wegen anderer Fragen rund um schwer erhältlicher Star-Wars-Literatur stehe:

„Starting in late 2015, Rich Handley and I approached Lucasfilm regarding the Encounters duology again, as they had expressed interest in publishing the works on the new Star Wars Blog. Matt Martin (of the Lucasfilm Story Group, who then ran the site) and Dan Brooks (who ran the Blog) approved the works for publication, with the plan being to publish them in parts due to the length, in particular, of Supernatural Encounters. However, not wishing to chop up the work if possible, I suggested an alternative means of publication: that I post them on my personal website and, in the manner of Abel G. Peña's SkyeWalkers, which had been published earlier that year, they could then be linked to or embedded in the Blog. They approved this means of publication as well as my plan to further edit the works over the coming months to ensure they were up-to-date, and in 2017, I finally published Cult Encounters on the Star Wars Timeline site, followed by Supernatural Encounters the year after.

Although they have not been cross-posted or promoted on the Blog (yet, at least; I haven't heard anything either way about if or when this will happen, and I suspect the focus of the Blog has shifted in the intervening time period to promoting newer works), fans can take solace in the fact the publication on my website was approved by Lucasfilm, was intended as an official publication (as opposed to my unofficial publications of cancelled or unpublished works, with the authors' permission, on the same site), and can be treated as official "canon" within the old Expanded Universe continuity.

-Will Supernatural Encounters lore appear on Wookieepedia?

That is for the fans to decide! As far as I'm aware, fans have already started chronicling some lore on Wookieepedia, although I believe Wookieepedia is taking the stance that the work is "cancelled" (which it never was) or "unlicensed" (which isn't accurate either) and labelling it as such. I'm not involved with any of that as it's not my call, but at the suggestion of fans, I did forward some of my emails with Lucasfilm executives to the administrators so as to help the folks at Wookieepedia properly categorize the work.

-Is Supernatural Encounters canon?

That's a tricky question to answer, as canon means something quite different now than when I wrote the work. Matt Martin understood the work to be a so-called "Legends" work and approved it for publication as such, although I had incorporated some elements of lore from the so-called new canon. It was certainly intended to be an Expanded Universe work, and due to being both Lucasfilm-licensed and approved for publication via my website, I believe it would be categorized as C-canon in the old classification system, although how that applies to post-Disney works of the old Expanded Universe (particularly those which have been published somewhat unconventionally such as SkyeWalkers and Supernatural Encounters) is unclear to me (and I haven't received any further guidance from Lucasfilm), and as I'm not Keeper of the Holocron, I can't state things regarding canonicity authoritatively.

-Is Supernatural Encounters licensed?

Yes; I filled out the requisite legal documents (freelance worksheets and tax forms and such) when the stories were first approved for publication by Pablo Hidalgo, the same licensing process I went through for my previous contributions to the Expanded Universe. There isn't any Lucasfilm licensing process beyond this.“

Joe hat mir auch bereits versichert, mir die entsprechenden Unterlagen zukommen zu lassen, sollte es diesbezüglich noch ernstliche Zweifel geben.

Zur Klarstellung: Wir streben mit diesem Vorschlag nicht zwingend eine förmliche Abstimmung an, sondern wollen vor allem ein Stimmungsbild der Benutzerschaft einholen, um spätere, möglicherweise ausartende Diskussionen auf den Diskussionsseiten einzelner Artikel wie dem in Entwicklung befindlichen Mnggal-Mnggal, Tilotny und die Himmlischen zu vermeiden. Es wäre denkbar, als Ergebnis des Stimmungsbilds oder einer etwaigen Abstimmung – je nach Konsens – einen klarstellenden Passus in die offiziellen Quellen aufzunehmen.

Mit dem Legends-Bereich können wir denke ich ohnehin etwas lockerer umgehen, und da die Werke ja schon durch den Lizensierungsprozess und alles durch gewesen sind und es nur an der Veröffentlichung hing und sogar die Veröffentlichung auf seiner Webseite erlaubt war... sehe da auch kein Problem, die einzubauen.
